Eté 1908, Giverny. La maison de C. Monet attire de jeunes peintres américains venus dans l'espoir de travailler auprès du maître. Très vite, rivalités et jalousies apparaissent. Pire, un crime est commis dans ce décor immortalisé sur la toile des impressionnistes : Ophélia, la fille d'un amateur d'art japonais, a été noyée dans l'étang. L'inspecteur Louis Berflaut est chargé de l'enquête.
